How to Dine in Malibu on a Budget
What do you think of when you hear ‘Malibu’? Probably not it’s affordable restaurants, right? Malibu is known for its celebrity homes, beaches, and luxury lifestyle. So when it came time to eat during my last road trip up Highway One, and I realized the nearest town was Malibu, I was nervous there wouldn’t be any options for us! In fact, my husband and I both said to each other “we can’t afford to eat there!” But I was pregnant at the time, and I was eating some food even if it was a thousand dollars for a salad (Okay, not really, but I was eating! – Pregnant lady needed her food, you know what I’m sayin’?)
I get on my phone to search out some restaurants…
“Can’t eat there – too expensive.”
“We are definitely not dressed for this place.”
“It costs HOW much for an appetizer?!”
You get the picture.
But then there it was!
After beginning to think we might actually have to wait until the next town, I found a small, local fish fry restaurant on Yelp. It’s called Malibu Seafood. I was thrilled!
You walk into a small refrigerated display section of locally caught fish, and you can order seafood there to take home with you. Then you walk to the other section (this place was tiny by the way – I had to turn sideways to let someone pass me with only four people in the room!) and you can order your meal. It was super low key – just a cashier and a menu. Once you order inside, you can pick up your food through a little window, and then sit outside to eat.
And who wouldn’t want to sit outside when the beach is your view!?
My husband ordered fish & chips, and I ordered fish tacos. Boy, were they DELICIOUS! The best part? We didn’t pay an arm and a leg for our food! We paid right around $30, including tip. Let me just add, when I said I ordered fish tacos…what I mean to say is I ordered three fish tacos… don’t judge me.
Look, I’m a messy eater, okay?
And there you have it! That is how you dine in Malibu on a budget…find your local beachside fish fry! Cheers!
